Thoughts:
“If you keep ignoring your past buyers, don’t complain when your revenue is always starting from zero every month.”
“You don’t need more customers – you need more repeat customers who don’t make you beg.”
“Retention is the only way to win this game without losing your mind (or your ad budget).”
Nobody tells you this…
But chasing new customers every month will kill your business faster than a NEPA blackout.
Let me tell you what really happened.
There was a time I was selling one hot product like this.
Sales were sweet.
Alerts were sweet.
Life was sweet.
Until one day… everything slowed down.
Ads stopped converting.
CAC went up.
And suddenly, my “sure banker product” was moving like traffic in Mile 2.
I thought it was a product problem.
So I launched another one.
Same wahala.
Then one day, I checked my dashboard and realized I had sold over 4,000+ units…
And not a single follow-up offer to those same people.
4,000 customers gone.
Like ex you never texted back.
That’s when it hit me.
Retention is not a nice-to-have. It’s survival.
Here’s what most people miss:
In Nigeria, it costs at least ₦3,000–₦6,000 in ads to get ONE new customer.
Well it depends of your product and marketing materials
But it costs ₦0 to resell to someone who already bought and liked your product.
Zero.
Just send them a WhatsApp message or call them.
Yet most E-commerce sellers are acting like street hawkers, shouting “Buy!” every day to new people
And ignoring the ones that already paid.
That’s the real madness.
It’s like fetching water with a bucket full of holes.
You’re sweating… but your bucket never fills.
So what’s the fix?
Three things.
Simple. Repeatable. Scalable.
Start treating past customers like gold.
Add them to a separate WhatsApp list, sms list, if you collect emails – then email list.
These people are your ATM.
You already have their trust, don’t waste it.
Send them post-purchase messages that matter.
Not “how are you?” or “are you enjoying it?” but real value.
Example: if they bought waist trainers, send them tips to use it well and an upsell offer for fat-burning tea.
You’ll gain their loyalty and make money if they buy
Create retention campaigns every month.
Plan a small flash sale just for past customers.
Or bundle offers only they can access.
Make them feel special, and they’ll spend more.
Think of it like dating.
You already got your partner.
If you don’t check in, she’ll forget you.
But if you stay sweet… she’ll keep coming back.
This one shift saved my margins.
And it’s exactly why I included an entire Customer Retention System inside E-commerce Success Launchpad.
There’s a full module that breaks down:
How to build a Retention System without expensive tools
What kind of offers to make (and when) so people don’t get tired of you
How to turn past buyers into raving fans (with just 1 follow-up message template)
Even retention systems for various products
If you’re tired of starting from zero every month…
If you’ve already sold to at least 50 people but made ₦0 from them again…
Then it’s time to stop playing.
Join E-commerce Success Launchpad
And use the same system my team uses to increase revenue without wasting money on ads daily.
Your next sale is not out there…
It’s inside your existing list.
Go get it.
