I started treating delivery like a mini customer experience on its own.
Before, I used to just ship the order and vanish – hoping the rider delivers.
Sometimes he did. Sometimes he didn’t.
Either way, the customer would message me 3 days later like…
“Hello, please what’s going on with my order?”
That question? It’s already a red flag.
By the time they’re asking that, trust has cracked.
So I flipped the script.
Now I send updates at every single step like I’m running a one-man DHL:
- “Your item has been packed.”
- “Driver is picking up now. Here’s his name and number.”
- “Let me know once you get it. If there’s any issue, I’m here.”
People love that. Not because they’re needy.
Because in Nigeria, they’ve been burned before.
One simple update can calm 100 silent fears.
And funny enough, they rate you more for the communication than the actual product.
Thank-You & Check-In Magic
Most sellers ghost the moment payment hits. Big mistake.
That “thank-you” message you ignore?
That’s your one chance to cement the relationship.
Not only does it show class… it gives you another window to do business again.
Here’s what I send:
“Hi {Name}, just checking in to be sure your order arrived in good shape. We really appreciate you. Let me know how it’s working for you!”
That one text?
It opens the door to get a review.
It reminds them who you are.
It makes them feel seen.
And sometimes, they even order another one without you asking.
Business is human.
And nobody forgets someone that followed up when they didn’t have to.
Refunds, Returns & Reorders
I used to avoid refund and return talks.
I thought, “Ah, if I mention refund, they’ll think I’m not confident in my product.”
But guess what?
Not having a clear refund policy makes you look suspicious – not confident.
Now, it’s crystal clear:
Refund available within X days
Item must be unused/sealed
No stories, no dragging
The result?
More people started buying with confidence.
Even the ones that had a small issue? They reached out first instead of dragging me on Instagram.
Because they knew what to expect.
That’s safety.
That’s what makes people come back even when things go wrong.
And when they come back? That’s when your business starts to feel like a real brand – not a one-chance seller.
I stopped treating post-purchase like an afterthought.
And everything changed.
My refund rate dropped.
Complaints reduced.
People even referred others because of how smooth the whole experience felt.
