Thoughts:
“You don’t need to guess what people want – you just need to look.”
“Hot products aren’t found – they’re validated.”
“In ecommerce, guessing is gambling. And most gamblers go broke.”
“When you copy competitors blindly, you inherit their mistakes – not just their success.”
Some of you are picking products to sell based on how you feel
Let me say this now…
Vibes doesn’t pay delivery riders.
Feelings don’t refund failed orders.
And passion without profit? That’s just punishment with extra steps.
When I was starting out, I launched a product I liked.
I didn’t check demand, I didn’t analyze pricing. I just felt it would work.
Three weeks later? Crickets. My ads flopped.
My WhatsApp was dry.
I was staring at cartons of “potential” like they owed me money.
That’s when it hit me… the market doesn’t care how you feel.
The market moves on DATA. If you don’t move with it, you’ll be left behind.
The best product decisions don’t start with Alibaba / Supplier contacts.
They start with market intelligence.
That means studying what people are already buying.
Looking at what your competitors are charging.
Checking what’s selling right now.
Knowing your numbers.
It’s like walking into a party where people are already dancing.
You just need to match the rhythm. Not start your own dance in silence.
You want to sell faster? Then find out what’s already selling.
Here’s how to actually do it:
1. Use Tools to Track Demand.
Use ad spy tools like Minea, or simply scroll TikTok, Facebook Ads Library, and Instagram.
Look out for physical products that show signs of sales…
Multiple creatives, 1k+ likes, lots of comments like “how much?”, “location?”, “deliver to Ibadan?” or “I’ve used it and it works.”
Even better?
Look for repeat ads from the same page.
If someone is spending money every day on the same product, it’s not vibes – it’s profit. Take notes.
Examples:
- That portable blender ad you keep seeing? It’s not random.
- Waist trainers popping up on 3 different pages in 1 week? Demand alert.
- If you keep seeing videos of LED mosquito lamps with UGC and real testimonials? That’s market intel screaming “Test me!”
2. Spy on Competitor Pricing.
This is more than just checking if someone sells for ₦19,500 or ₦25,000.
It’s about understanding why that price works.
Look at 3–5 sellers of the same item.
What’s their price range?
Who offers free shipping?
Who’s adding free gifts?
Who’s using a “today only” urgency?
Then check their comments and engagement.
Who’s getting the most traction?
If Seller A charges ₦20,000 and gets no engagement, and Seller B charges ₦23,000 but gives a bonus gift + social proof – guess who’s winning?
This is the level of pricing psychology we teach inside Ecommerce Success Launchpad “Offer Optimization and Pricing Strategy” lesson.
Because just reducing price blindly is for jokers. Strategy is what moves real units.
3. Narrow Your Niche.
Selling to “everybody” is a trap.
It makes your message weak. You end up shouting in a crowd where nobody hears you.
Focus your product on someone specific.
Example:
- Instead of “Body lotion,” sell “Stretch mark cream for new moms.”
- Instead of “Posture corrector,” sell “Posture support for remote workers sitting 10hrs daily.”
- Instead of “Hair growth oil,” sell “Balding fix for men over 30.”
Suddenly, your ads write themselves.
Your targeting becomes easy.
And your customers feel like “this is made for me.”
That’s how niche wins work.
And that’s why inside ESL’s “Ecommerce Millionaire Niches” report, we’ve already done 80% of this for you.
4. Study Their Sales Funnel.
Once you see someone running ads consistently, don’t just smile and scroll.
Study.
Click their link.
Join their Funnel flow.
Read their page.
What platform are they using – landing page, order form, chat-to-close, call?
Are they upselling? Cross-selling?
Do they follow up when you don’t buy?
Actually buy the product and study their sales process.
Most people never do this. But it’s free intel.
And it’s how we help ESL students build their own funnel with tested scripts and templates
5. Check Their Engagement and Feedback.
Real buyers will always ask buyer-type questions:
- “Is this still available?”
- “Can you deliver to Abuja?”
- “How do I pay?”
- “My own just arrived yesterday!”
Fake hype looks different:
- “This is amazing 🔥🔥🔥” (from people with zero profile pictures)
- “My aunty used it” (on every post)
- Or 50 comments saying the exact same thing in a row (bot flood)
Don’t be fooled by surface noise.
Study the quality of conversation happening under their ads and pages.
This is not about being smart. It’s about being prepared.
Lazy sellers chase products. Profitable sellers study the market, then drop what people already want into the flow.
