Share the Vision:

Clearly explain where the company is heading and why their work matters.

If you want to do N100m in Q1 so that you can be the company that own 10% of your market share.

Or whatever your vision is.

Once you can articulate it. You must understand that, your some of your team members must find a way to make sense of your vision.

They need something tangible that they can work with, without paying the vision is impossible.

That’s why we set goal.

Set Measurable Goals:

Break the vision into smaller, actionable goals that each department or team member can contribute to.

It’s important to break down the goal for each department and members.

For instance, if you want to make N100m and let’s say, it take you 10,000 customers to do that.

You have to work backward.

I love using our Ecommerce Goal Achievement System to break down the numbers.

In Ecommerce, it means we’ll need…

Sales people to close & follow up and sell to 111 customers daily.

Marketers will have to generate 222 leads daily (assuming 50% delivery rate)

Inventory Manager will have to make sure the number of products are available at all times.

You have to make sure there’s enough budget on ground to execute the strategy.

Provide Systems & Resource:

Ensure your team has the systems, tools, and support to execute.

Example: If Sales people need to deliver 111 orders daily.

Ensure marketing team have budget to run ads to generates enough leads…

If your average cost per order is N2000. It means you’ll spending N222,000 on ads daily.

While having enough inventory on ground.

Because you can have all the leads in the world, if you don’t delivery products to customers, you’ll fail.

3 Action Steps:

Define Milestones

Share the vision, share the goal and share the systems.

Outline key performance indicators (KPIs) and share them with the team in weekly meetings.

Let everyone know what they’ll be doing and achieving.

Reward Progress

Introduce performance-based bonuses or incentives tied to team milestones.

Find smart ways to motivate your team by giving them team bonus or individual bonus.

Don’t forget to make your team feel special even if they don’t have the goal completely. Business is a marathon.
