Let me tell you the dumbest thing I did in 2020…
I sold a product. Customer paid. I clapped for myself.
Then I shipped it… and never spoke to them again.
No upsell. No bundle. No second offer.
Just “thank you for your order, bye bye.”
And I kept doing that.
Again. And again. And again.
Until one day, I did the maths… and wanted to punch myself.
I had sold over ₦18 million worth of a single product that year, I sold over 10 different products.
But profit? It didn’t feel like I made anything real.
Facebook was chopping its own.
Delivery agents were chopping theirs.
And I was left with what?
Crumbs. Literal crumbs.
It felt like I was working for everyone but myself.
Like I was renting money… not making it.
And the worst part?
I wasn’t even broke because of a bad product.
The product was SELLING. I just didn’t know how to milk the moment.
In Ecommerce, the first sale is NOT where the money is.
The first sale is just your entry ticket.
The profit? That’s hiding in what you sell after that first transaction.
Your AOV (Average Order Value) is one of the biggest profit levers in this game.
And upsells + bundles are how smart people pull that lever.
The sad truth?
Most Nigerian ecommerce owners are too focused on “just getting the order”
They leave the rest of the money on the table.
Worse… they don’t even know it’s their money.
How to Boost AOV The Easy Way
STRATEGY 1: “If You Like This, You’ll Like That Too”
It’s basic psychology.
If someone buys Indomie, there’s a 90% chance they’ll want egg.
Same thing in Ecommerce.
If someone buys a waist trainer, they’re very likely to say yes to a slimming tea.
You don’t need to beg.
They’re already in buying mode.
You just need to suggest it at the right time like immediately after they click “order.”
Our upsell test showed a 12.4% bump in revenue just from suggesting one extra product on the confirmation page.
The customer already trusts you.
Don’t waste that moment.
(And please… don’t wait for your ad budget to finish before you realize this.)
STRATEGY 2: “Combo Is King” – Bundle Your Way To Bigger Orders
Ever wonder why Mama Put gives you ₦500 rice and still suggests ₦200 dodo, ₦300 meat, ₦100 water?
Alone, the rice is cheap.
Together? She just made ₦1100 from one person.
Do this in Ecommerce too.
Group 2–3 related products into a “deal” or “pack.”
Use a catchy name. Offer a discount.
Let people feel like they’re getting more for less.
Don’t sell one stretch mark cream.
Bundle 2 with a body oil.
Call it “Glow Up Kit” and charge more.
The profit margin is better.
Your AOV goes up.
And customer feels like they’re the one winning.
Quick heads up though…

STRATEGY 3: The Page That Pays You Extra (Impulse Upsell Pages)
Some of you are out here doing all this manually.
