Thoughts:
“Your mind is part of the business. Break it and the business breaks too.”
“Sanity is a strategy. Protect it before you chase scale.”
“Your enough number is not small. It is smart. It is freedom in disguise.”
Let me be real with you…
That “100 orders a day” dream you’re chasing or maybe…
That “1000 orders a day” dream you’re chasing…
Might be the exact reason you’ll hate your life in 3 months.
There was a point in my life when I thought peace was for the weak. That if I wasn’t selling 200+ units a day, I was failing.
I would see screenshots flying up and down online. “₦3.5M in 7 days”… “230 orders in one weekend”… “Ad budget: ₦500K/day”.
And I’d be there thinking, “God, am I the only fool selling 20 units per day?”
Until I got what I was praying for.
More orders than I could handle.
More pressure than I could breathe under.
And profit? Nowhere to be found because I didn’t have the system and structure before thinking of scaling.
When 158 people order from you in one day… and only 47 get their products… you’re not running a business.
Chasing volume for the sake of volumes without systesm will drain you. But defining your “enough number” will save you.
Every Nigerian Ecommerce owner needs to ask:
How much is ENOUGH for me to breathe, think, and actually enjoy this business?
For some, that’s 15 orders a day. For others, it’s 5. While others, it’s 500+ per day.
And that’s okay.
10 orders/day with ₦7k profit per unit is still ₦2.1M/month.
The real flex is calm profit. Not loud revenue. If you don’t have the mental capacity or systems to get and sustain the result.
Do this before you scale again, to enjoy it
STRATEGY 1: The “Danfo vs Uber” Principle
You see that yellow danfo with 17 passengers shouting, “Oshodi! Oshodi!”
Compare it to the Uber carrying just one customer.
Which one makes more noise?
Which one breaks down more?
Which one collects higher pay, less stress, and gets 5-star reviews?
You don’t need danfo energy in your business.
You need the Uber mindset. Fewer customers, better experience, more profit per drop.
You’ll keep your sanity, and your bank account will still smile.
In essence, focus on how to get more customers to spend more with you, without chasing volumes if you don’t have the systems for it.
STRATEGY 2: Watch Your Capacity, Not Your Greed
One of the hardest truths in Ecommerce is this:
Your ego will make promises your operations cannot keep.
You’ll run 10 ads, collect 100 orders, then realize your supplier has only 48 pieces in stock.
Or that your rider is in Yaba and 80% of your orders are in Ikorodu.
Instead of bragging about big numbers, fix your capacity first.
Don’t let growth outpace your delivery engine.
And most people don’t talk about this part online… because “suffering in silence” is part of the aesthetics.
Build your structure and systems before you start thinking of scaling.
But even if you know this truth, it’s hard to pull off if your system is scattered…
